Why Visit the French Alps in December?

The answer is simple, the French Alps offer the best of everything a winter holiday has to offer. They have the best ski resorts, with ski-in ski-out facilities, slopes for all levels- beginners and professionals and some of the best Après Ski activities with restaurants and alpine clubs that thump with music and crowds.

They also have so many activities for non-skiers. There are cutesy mountain villages to explore and fantastic food and wine to be had from either cosy restaurants or ones perched on snow covered cliffs with jaw dropping views. In December these ski resorts and villages are adorned with Christmas décor and look straight out of a fairytale.

The ski season begins between second to third week of December depending on snow levels but for non skiers the time before the ski season is also a good time to go. Activities like mushing or dog sledging, snow shoeing, paragliding and other light flights, ziplining, luge rides etc. can be enjoyed. December is a good time to go because you don't just get to enjoy the winter activities but also the Christmas spirit

For days when the weather is a bit too harsh to explore outdoors there are indoor arenas with video games, pools, saunas, spas, indoor rock climbing and other games to keep one occupied.

The French Alps are an entire region dotted with many tiny ski resorts and villages. Its important to pick the right one to suit your needs. Some ski towns or ski resorts as they are called are best for serious skiers, some for families, others for teenagers and young people looking to party and some for honeymooners. French Alps weather in December

The weather changes from resort to resort but an average of -5°C TO 6°C is experienced in December. Resorts like Chamonix which are at an higher altitude tend to be cooler where as those that are more sheltered like Meribel-Mottaret are warmer. But one need not worry, if you are dressed right there is not such thing as too cold and also the accommodation options in the French Alps offer the most sophisticated and modern technology to keep you warm and comfortable.

Mushing or Dog Sledging

A fun activity for everyone, even the not so adventurous. All you have to do is choose to ride the sledge which is extremely easy or be lazy and choose to be the one sitting in the sledge and enjoying the surreal landscapes. Added bonus- you get to play with really cute dogs! What's not to like?!

Enjoy some R&R post snow activities

Nothing like a hot sauna, jacuzzi or just some sun bathing post all the snow activities. Pick a hotel that has a heated outdoor pool to relax in or head to one of the many spas, pools & saunas in the region.

Nocturnal Luge Rides

Luge rides are our favorite even the summer ones, but there is something so much more fun about the night luge rides in the French Alps. A healthy competition amongst friends and family really livens up the evenings and is the perfect way to burn those calories from the fantastic food & wine!

Ice Karting, yes its a thing!

Go karting but on ice! Need we say more?

Snowmobile Rides

Another fantastic activity for all the non-skiers. Come explore the vast and wonderful landscape on snowmobile rides. Nothing like buzzing past the scenery on these beautiful machines.

Enjoy New Year & Christmas celebrations

Fireworks, Christmas markets, holiday décor and all with the magical backdrop of snow covered mountains, Winter wonderland at its best!
