Kohima, Nagaland

Nagaland celebrates its famous Hornbill Festival in December. During the fest, traditional arts, dances, folk songs, and games are held and plenty of handicraft stalls, food stalls, and rice beer can also be seen. The major attraction of the fest is the Hornbill National Rock Concert which begins in the evening. Many bands from all over the country come to compete and people greatly enjoy their performances. Also, there is a lively night bazaar. You can also witness the Naga Chilli Eating Contest here.

Places to visit in India in December for Adventure enthusiasts:

Auli, Uttarakhand

Ski paradise of India, Auli is a quiet getaway in the mountains. Auli the destination for winter Olympics of India. At an altitude between 2500 and 3000 meters, Auli  is surrounded by beautiful forests that make for an enchanting landscape in winters.

There is not much else to do but enjoy skiing and nature in winter. It makes for an ideal romantic and quiet getaway. Many new hotels with glass walls make for an excellent place to stay here!

Gujarat

The only place in India to see a pride of Asiatic lions, free from captivity and in their natural habitat, Gir is also the pride of Gujarat.  Located on the west coast of Gujarat Gir often gets overlooked as a wildlife destination for better known national parks in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.  

But today more and more tourists flock here as tourism infrastructure improves and Gujarat tourism attracts with its fantastic tourism campaigns. December is the ideal time to visit Gujarat as even the Rann Mahotsav in Kutch with its beautiful white desert takes place during this time. It is also flamingo season in Chari-Dhand Wetland Conservation Reserve where nature version of ‘pretty in pink’ can be seen by the flocks. And all in all the weather is pleasant, local delicacies like undhiyo are easily available and many new attractions like the Statue of Unity can be easily added to your itinerary.
