For the culture vultures:

Bhopal, MP

Bhopal is a perfect mixture of culture, customs, history & traditions. It has a lot of manmade lakes and visiting here in monsoon will be most favorable to enjoy its weather. You will also get to witness the grandeur of the Havelis and mansions. Also, Bhopal is one of the greenest cities and you will get to see its charm during monsoons. A stroll on the by lanes on a nice rainy day will illustrate a strong influence of Islam and its majestic mosques.

Stay at the Jehan Numa Palace, a palace built by the former queen and now a luxury hotel still run by the royal family. Bhopal actually has strong female characters in its fascinating history. Besides the fascinating history and palaces the city is known for its street food too.

For Adventure enthusiasts:

Gangtok, Sikkim

If you love adventure activities and are always looking for an adrenaline rush, Gangtok is a place for you. Activities like mountain trekking, river rafting, rock climbing & biking can be experienced here.

Gangtok is also known for its Buddhist monasteries and serving as the perfect base to explore high altitude lakes places like Tsango Lake and Nathula Pass.Iit also offers spectacular views of Mt. Khangchendzonga which is the third highest mountain peak in the world.

The main Mahatma Gandhi Marg resembles a high-street of some European mountain town with many cute restaurants and cafes offering local and western fare. The city also serves as a base for trips to remote areas of North Sikkim like Lachen and Lachung as well as worlds highest lake-Gurudongmar!

For Nature & Wildlife Enthusiasts:

Goa & the Konkan Coast

One of the best places to visit in Maharashtra during monsoon is the Konkan Coast. A shoreline running southward from Mumbai all the way to Goa, the Konkan coast is a picturesque strip of land, perfect as a monsoon destination in India. Peppered with postcard beaches, vivid green paddy fields, rolling hills, and ruins of forts, it is a perfect pick for monsoons. Places like Alibaug, Ratnagiri, Dapoli, Malva, Ganpatipule, Tarkarli etc can be visited.

A word of caution though, the beaches here have strong monsoon currants so be careful. The rains make the heat here bearable and make for a pleasant getaway.
